Governance & how PAKMLS works

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about how PAKMLS is governed, funded and kept transparent, based on the proposal for a national Multiple Listing Service in Pakistan.

What is PAKMLS?

PAKMLS (Pakistan Multiple Listing Service) is a unified, transparent platform that lets every realtor and property dealer in Pakistan list their properties in one place. It is modeled on the non-profit MLS systems successfully used by realtors in the United States and Canada, and aims to bring standardization, security and fairness to the real estate industry in Pakistan.

Who runs and governs PAKMLS?

PAKMLS is governed by a Board of Governors (BoG). There will be 10 people from real estate community who shall be added as an interim BoG until we have sufficient register members who then can vote to elect BoG and other executive positions.

Is there a Chairperson, and how are they chosen?

Yes. The Board of Governors internally elects a Chairperson to lead and represent the board. The elected Chairperson serves an initial term of two years.

Will Board of Governors seats be elected democratically?

Yes, over time. During the first two years, the BoG will formulate and finalize a formal election process. After that initial period, democratic elections for the Board of Governors will be held every two years to ensure fair, representative governance.

Are Board of Governors members paid?

No. All Board of Governors members serve in a voluntary capacity, with no financial compensation or incentives for their role.

Is PAKMLS a for-profit company?

No. PAKMLS operates as a non-profit entity, consistent with how MLS platforms are run by realtors in the United States and Canada.

Is there a membership fee, and what does it pay for?

The Board of Governors sets a minimal annual membership fee, kept deliberately low to cover only essential operating costs: website development and maintenance, IT infrastructure, training programs for realtors, and basic administrative and accounting needs.

How is financial transparency and accountability ensured?

PAKMLS follows strict accounting standards, and a reputable chartered accountancy firm is engaged to conduct an annual audit. The resulting audit report is made publicly available to all registered members, so the organization’s finances stay open to scrutiny.

How often does the Board of Governors meet?

The Board meets quarterly, using platforms like Zoom or WhatsApp, to review progress, address concerns, and make decisions that refine the MLS platform and its policies.

How is my data and my leads protected?

All of agents data is going to be 100% confidential and all leads generated from the listings will go to that agent directly and no one can see them, even system admin. Agents can see all leads on agent dashboard.

Why build a national MLS instead of everyone listing separately?

A single, unified platform lets every realtor list properties under the same standards, security and fairness — rather than a fragmented market of separate, inconsistent listings. This mirrors the approach used successfully by realtor associations in the US and Canada, and is intended to bring unity, transparency and modernization to Pakistan’s real estate industry while building consumer trust.

How can a builder or developer list a project?

A builder can contact any independent agent or any agency to list thier project. Other option is builder register as an agency with their own name and then have one person from their office to register as an agent and list the project.

Still have a question? Register as an agent or agency or reach out to your local association.
